Following a sold-out show at the Music House on International Women’s Day 2023, the band was founded with the intention of showcasing female talent and spotlighting important female artists such as Erykah Badu, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, and others.
In June 2023, Planet Yoni played a benefit concert for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria in cooperation with Brückenbauern Verein at the Volksgarten Pavilion, and after several encores, it was clear that we should make it official. Since then we’ve played events such as the Knoten Kollektiv Festival 2024, International Women’s Day at Murinsel 2024, Spleen 2024, Spotting 2024 at Postgarage, CSD Pride Graz 2024, Schlagergarten Gloria 2025, as well as shows at Kraeftner, Literaturhaus, private events and Loop in Vienna.
With four singers, a full horn section and a rhythm section, Planet Yoni is a unique project, the likes of which had never been heard before in Austria.
We also play original songs alongside our original arrangements of soul, neo-soul, funk, hip-hop, and R&B, creating a soulful, powerful live sound with an unapologetically queer, feminist message.
